The Challenge

The National At Risk Education Network states the following:
 

• One of every three school children will not graduate from high school.
• The financial future of high school dropouts is grim.
• More than 2,000,000 children are arrested each year.
• Approximately one in five children live in poverty.
• Each day in America eight children are killed by firearms.

A Solution

Student Mentor Partners (SMP) provides hope and a supportive environment to at-risk Detroit area youth of average academic abilities by providing a four-year adult mentoring relationship, along with tuition assistance for private high school.

Founded in 1998, we began with three students in three schools. Today we support more than 45 boys and girls in Detroit area private high schools, making private school affordable for low-income families.
